ONE.
Posted on August 27, 2010 · Leave a CommentI advise you take a ride in to Downtown Atlanta this weekend and indulge in the ridiculous deals that are happening all over the place! Okay, now that I’ve got your attention we can really get down to business. Concentrics Restaurants run seven restaurants in the Atlanta area, each of which are absurdly delicious. Their foods are what dreams are made of.
One of the restaurants under Concentrics is an establishment that was once a warehouse and was redesigned by Johnson Studios into what is now known as ONE. Midtown Kitchen. The menu boasts cured meats, cheeses and oysters on the half shell (not turtles) and those are just “firsts.” Columbia River Salmon and Wood Grilled Hanger Steak are just a few of the “mains” they’re serving up. If this sounds good to you then you’re in for a surprise.
Local dealer of all deals good, Scoutmob, is offering the deal of the week (I’ve been browsing all week). And it’s super easy to get the ONE. deal. Just visit Scoutmob.com and it’ll be on the homepage since it’s the deal of the day. Click on “Get it FREE,” type in your phone number (no worries, no spamming) and they’ll send you the deal on your phone. All you’ve got to do from there is make the 30 minute “trek” from Park Lake, order, eat and show your text message for half off your meal. It’s that simple!

Me & Mommy
Posted on August 25, 2010 · Leave a CommentGeorgia Aquarium is back at! They’re offering these ridiculous deals again and you can’t beat ‘em…so, you might as well join ‘em. You know, I was talking about the Aquarium with a friend of mine the other day and she was adamant that the Tennessee Aquarium is better than our own. And I was blown away. The Tennessee Aquarium isn’t the largest in the world and it doesn’t have Belugas! That was my main point.
How many of you agree with me? Our Aquarium is ten times better and if you haven’t been yet then now’s your chance. The Georgia Aquarium is offering the Me & Mommy deal again now through November 12th. What’s the Me & Mommy deal you ask? Well, for all you mothers out there with little ones it means $25 covers admission for one adult and up to four kids ages 5 & under. You do have to visit Monday – Friday and you have to purchase your tickets online, but parking’s included in the price!
This deal is for you mothers sitting at home trying to entertain those restless kids, so be sure and take them soon. I’m sure they’ll enjoy it!
Thanks to Atlanta On The Cheap for the deal.

Everybody’s Free
Posted on August 19, 2010 · Leave a CommentEverybody’s free…to download music! With the whole Napster fiasco a few years ago and the music industry always threatening to sue music pirates, I don’t doubt that you might be a little hesitant to download music these days. I actually knew someone that was sued and made to pay an undisclosed amount for downloading music illegally, so that kind of scared me straight.
Of course you can always buy your music off iTunes and a lot of us have resorted to doing just that, but that money can really add up! So, what I do is look for free and computer-safe downloads. And do I find them!
This week I’ve found a free download for Taylor Swift, alternative band Dead Confederate and a track from dream-based blockbuster Inception. All for FREE.
All you have to do is follow the link and download it! It takes two minutes at most Park Lake! I know you like music, who doesn’t? Just be sure not to blast it too loud. You don’t want to disturb your neighbors.

Family Fun Day for Free
Posted on August 13, 2010 · Leave a CommentI grew up in the Norcross area, I attended Meadowcreek High School where I played baseball all for years. That’s not saying much because we really weren’t that good; I think we won about 40 games in my four years on varsity. But, I was good (of course I would say that) and I used to practice almost daily at Malibu Grand Prix’s batting cages. And it definitely helped that I knew three or four people that worked there, so I had unlimited access to the cages. I hit until my hands bled!
I haven’t been back to Malibu in years, but apparently it’s still open and they will be having a Free Family Fun Day this Saturday, August 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will a bounce house, giant slide, face painting, balloon art, carnival games, giveaways and much more. Plus, they can always play in the arcade or race the go-carts all for $15. That’s right 15 bucks! Just mention the Free Family Fun Day when you’re at the register and you can buy a 4-hour play pass for just $15.
Thanks to Atlanta on the Cheap for the heads up! Malibu is only 14 minutes from Park Lake, so get ou there and tie those kids out!
Cuban Cuisine
Posted on August 10, 2010 · Leave a CommentAs weird as this might sound, I grew up with what I consider a second family. Yes, a second family. I grew up playing baseball with the four brothers and come to find out they lived a minute around the corner. So, come summer time you could find me around the corner at the Cubans’ house. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention they’re Cuban.
The first time I tasted Mama Maria’s Ropa Vieja, I was hooked. Anything that came out of her kitchen was like gold to me and I savored pretty much every morsel. Now don’t get me wrong, my mom can “throwdown” with the best of them, but Cuban food was and is something like no other. Fried plantains, fried yucca, arroz con pollo; it was all delicious!
About a month ago I went to eat with my second family for Don Lino’s (their father) birthday and we went to this Cuban restaurant I had never heard of called Palomilla’s over off Spalding Dr. in Norcross. Now, you know it has to be good for a Cuban family to go to a Cuban restaurant. And it was good!
I had the Pork Sandwich with Fried Yucca and was it good. The meat was tender and savory and the yucca was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Just like Mama Maria makes it! She would probably get mad at me, but it was just as good as the pork she makes.
You really need to check Palomilla’s out; it’s literally 2 minutes away from Park Lake! Plus, they have a $5 printable coupon on their website if you spend at least $25. Take the family out for a little Cuban tonight.
